It’s one of the best feelings in the world, and one of the only
times that being a smug git is acceptable. What I’m referring
to is winning a traffic light battle. And this feeling is even
better when you embarrass a ‘superior car’ in your
relatively stock-looking hatch.
The fact of the matter is, if you pulled up to the lights next
to a Bugatti Veyron (or similar hypercar) in this month’s
cover 1320 MINI, you’d out-drag it all the way to 140mph, and
probably beyond! Just imagine how you’d feel if you were
that MINI driver – and then spare a minute for the ‘poor sod’
in his Buggatti. It makes me grin just thinking about it, let
alone doing it.
When you actually stop and take a moment to put that
into context, it’s bloody impressive: a 1.6-litre, FWD hatch
seeing off a £1,000,000 hypercar!
Now, if you asked me what I’d rather have tucked up in
my garage, I’m not going to lie, I’d take the Veyron (I just
wouldn’t race any red MINIS), but that isn’t the point. The
boys at 1320 have transformed an everyday car into
something incredible… and that is the point, and the reason
why we love to modify.
