The players take on the roleof Fated, who are men and women of exceptionaldestiny. One player, however, takes on the task ofbecoming the group’s Fatemaster, who is tasked withtelling a compelling story for the other players toparticipate in. All of the participants are communallytelling a story, like a movie in which the players arethe main characters, and the Fatemaster is the writer,director, and supporting cast.If you are the Fatemaster, it is your task to bring theworld to life. You play the role of many FatemasterCharacters, who will challenge, aid, or just exist,within the world. In one scene you might play the partof a local saloonkeeper, or a boy who pleads with theFated for help. In another, you might be in control ofa group of bandits attacking the Fated, or a powerfulNeverborn who wants to deal for their souls.In the end, the goal for everyone at the table is totell a good story that all the participants can enjoy.Through the Breachis designed to give each Fatedcharacter a moment in the sun, as well as providingthe Fatemaster with the tools to tell an excellent story.To achieve that goal the Fatemaster will challengethe players, and the players will likely surprise theFatemaster with their Actions. Much of the fun of aroleplaying game comes from interacting with eachother and responding to events as they unfold.As a player, it is your job to make all the relevantdecisions for your Fated character. You will decidewhat kind of person he or she is and play his or herrole in the story. There are many ways to customizethe character, from the equipment carried, the magicslearned, and what skills are mastered. It is up to you,the player, to bring the character to life. Your goalis helping to tell the story of your character in thedangerous and unforgiving world of Malifaux.4Chapter 1: Introduction
